What are MEWAs?

“MEWA” is an acronym for “multiple employer welfare arrangement.” Its primary definition is found in the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (“ERISA”). MEWAs refer to employee welfare benefit plans, or any other arrangement, that provides a welfare benefits, (such as health insurance) to the employees of two or more employers (including one or more self-employed individuals).
